The Wave, Arizona
The Wave is a sandstone rock formation in the US near the Arizona and Utah border. It is on the slopes of the Coyote Buttes, in the Paria Canyon-Vermilon Cliffs Wilderness area. The Wave is made of Jurassic-age Navajo Sandstone, that is approx. 190 million years old.
The trail begins at the Wire Pass Trailhead and continues 3 miles across open desert and steep rock formations it climbs 350 feet, making the round trip 6 miles. I have been to the Wave twice and carried both 35mm and 4 X 5 camera systems totaling 45 plus pounds on both trips. It is an awesome hike and great adventure!
A permit from the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is required to visit the wave.
